My Collection: Bandai Thundercats Classics & Mezco Mega Scale Mumm-Ra

ThunderCats was a highly lauded animated series that aired from 1985-1990 for a total of four seasons with 130 original episodes. It is considered to be one of the best animated shows from the 80’s. Collectors have driven the ThunderCats to become a pop-culture phenomenon over the years

The Thundercats was my absolute favorite TV show when I was a young child. I loved is so much and watched it any chance I could. I was so fortunate and lucky to have so many of the toys. I had the Sword of Omens, countless figures and the Thundertank. I loved this show so much and it meant alot to me and have so many found memories of that time. Thundercats defined what toys were for me, I remember been to my cousins one Christmas, four boys all older than me, and they were playing with Star Wars toys and figures, they were tiny, had no action feature and forgive me, creepy ugly (sorry Ewoks). I did Star Wars as I grew older and come to appreciate why the figures were so small. But all it did for me at the time was define these toys of my childhood and to my astonishment they made a return in 2011.

Bandai Thundercats Classics

Lion-O
The arrival of a new series on Cartoon Network meant that the Thundercats were back. I loved the new show, it had depth and was something for fans both young and old. I had introduced my brothers to the Thundercats years previously when the original 80's series got a DVD release which we really enjoyed. The new was a return to Saturday morning Thundercats for us all. WIth the arrival of the new show and new toys there was also a massive treat for older fans. Bandai had announced the realse of a line of Thundercats Classics for Collectors.

Me and my lovely Girlfriend had spotted these at our local Smyths Toy Store after months of her listening about me going on about them. I shed a single tiny tear when we found them all displayed, it was as if the best thing of my childhood had come back to me on their release in December 2011.

Tygra

These 8 inch Classic Collectors figures are a great throwback for older fans. The first two in the line up Lion-O and Tygra, my two favorite characters of the show. My wonderful Girlfriend had got them for me for Christmas. These figures were great and a real stand out in my collection. Both these figures were extremely accurate with a great sculpts and accessories too. each one came with exchangeable hands and a large and small version of their weapons. Lion-o's claw shield was very well done, it could be holstered on his waist, or a a glove and best of all in either position the small dagger form of his sword could be stored within it.

Although the line was re-branded in a smaller 6 inch figure later before it was cancelled I was so happy to have a physical representation of the toys and TV show that meant so much to me in my childhood.

Mezco Mega Scale Mumma Ra

I love this awesome Mumma Ra 15 inch action figure. My girlfriend had got me this amazing Christmas gift the year after my other Thundercats action figures. Its amazing. I had not opened and displayed the figure for 13 months. It just looked brilliant displayed in its box with its stunning classic artwork.

I eventually opened it and the it got even more amazing. there was minor assembly required and the attaching of his fabric cloak and displaying of real bandages to displayed as desired. I love having a villain figure that over sizes the heroes and this figure certainly does that. Mezco do have other mega scale Thundercats but none of which look as good and authentic at this Mumma Ra. This figure is defiantly the best physical representation of the character.

That's my Thundercats collection , hope it made you feel as nostalgic as it did for me.

Bye for now

Thundercats Hoooooo !

My Collection: DC Universe Classics All Star The Joker

The Joker was always a favorite of mine. You can't love Batman without loving the Joker too. He is one of the best and most well know villains existing in comics.

I never knew this figure existed and simply stumbled across it one Sunday night and I decided to go on eBay to pass the time and I had found this figure at a reasonable price. There was about 20 minutes to go on a auction and there was only a single bid in front of me. I waited patiently watching and had never bid on anything on eBay before. I anxiously waited for the timer count down and I had WON the auction and the figure was mine. There is always a level of excitement when you win an auction.

This iconic representation of the Clown Price of Crime was best. Inspired by Kenner's action figure toy line of the 80's and features the same design and mallet accessory of this vintage counterpart. The figure arrived and it was just brilliant. Unlike my previous DC Universe purchase: All Stars Batman which had no accessories. This figure had several; Large Mallet, Playing Cards, Figure Stand, Cane and the finishing touch a Joker Fish form both one of my favorite Joker stories and Batman The Animated Series Episodes - The Laughing Fish.

This colourful character was a great addition to my collection and paired well with my Batman figure.I won this in September 2012 and The Joker is still the only villain in collection of comic book characters and I love the retro colour scheme of this figure. The Joker is one of the best villains in the DC Universe. The Clown Prince of Crime is Batman’s deadliest and most unpredictable foe.

More to come

Enjoy

My Collection: DC Universe Classics All Stars Batman

Batman ! I always wanted a Batman figure. On those trips with my girlfriend to Dublin we had went to Forbidden Planet and there was never a Batman collectors action figure available. He would have sold out the fastest of in whatever action figure line he was available in.

Rebooted and redesigned for a new generation! This figure is one of the first from Mattel based on Jim Lee’s designs for the New 52. The Mattel DC Universe Classics line was a line I liked. Other lines like DC Direct and others all had figures that just did not look as fun as these action figures whilst still being detailed and overall great action figures of characters from the DC Universe.

Although I always would have liked and adult collectors Batman action figure, I was never sure what one I would have wanted. Then at my local Comic Book shop in Letterkenny I found it :)I had been watching Pixel Dan's action figure reviews on Youtube and this always seemed like the best action figure available.

I bought the figure and was really pleased with it. I had made the move from casual Batman and comic book fan around the time of the launch of the New 52 and this figure is based on Batman's appearance since the relaunch.

This figure was later re-released under the one of the new re-brands Batman Unlimited and the figure had a glossy new paint application, But I still prefer and recommend the first one.I love this figure and it was the first of a few Adult Collectors Batman action figures that I have purchased. The first Batman figure I ever owned, a fantastic modern representation of Gotham’s number one crime fighter and the beginning of my DC Universe collection.

My Collection: Marvel Select DAREDEVIL

Marvel Select Daredevil

The one that started it all. This was my first Adult Collectors Action Figure. My wonderful girlfriend got it to me on our first trip away together while we went on a trip to Dublin for a concert. I love Daredevil. He's always been one of my favorite comic book characters, and now with this figure I can display that as well as a souvenir of our first time away together.

I was first introduced to Daredevil in the Spider-Man animated series two part episode "Framed " and "The Man without Fear" and later the live action movie. I really like and he became one of my favorites comic book characters. I liked the grittiness and how he didn't have super powers just enhanced abilities and how he trained himself to become a crime fighter. I loved the best of the graphic novels, Frank Millers tales, Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale Yellow mini-series and currently the outstanding Mark Waid series that I'm really enjoying at the movement. I'll later make my way onto the Brian Michael Bendis's run of Daredevil stories.

This was the one that started off my collectors action figure collection. I have quite a few Daredevil Graphic Novels as I am a huge fan. He  is a great character that has featured in some great stories that both me and my girlfriend both really enjoy. This an excellent and detailed figure. The figure is subtly detailed in a way not to look too much like a toy but more item for adult collectors figure. It also comes with the cross cathedral rooftop display base, just like the cover of issue #3 in Kevin Smith's Guardian Devil story. Marvel Select Daredevil stands at 7 inches tall and for me is a must have action figure.

Bye for now

Captain America : The Winter Solider. My Review

So, I've no blog entries for a while but I’m catching up today.

Easily the best new movie I've seen in 2014.

Last week we went to see Captain America: The Winter Solider and it was amazing. Simply brilliant movie and dare I say it, the best of the post Avengers sequels. I loved Iron Man 3 and everything about Thor: The Dark World. but Captain America blew them out of the water in terms of changes many aspects of the Marvel Universe. It was brilliant, really slick, action packed and above average conspiracy thriller. I cannot praise it enough. This movie was superb. It was so intense it parts I swore (and I never swear).

It has reinvested in interest in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. due to the events of this film. For the past 3 weeks myself and kid brother had kind of drifted off it, due to it being not as good and nowhere near as its main comic book TV show rival Arrow. But now I find myself catching up with the show not that soon the show will deal with repercussions from the latest Captain America movie on earth bound Marvel movies. My girlfriend and I had both really enjoyed this movie so much. She had only one complaint, his outfit wasn't tight enough and later dedicated her own blog entry to Chris Evans

Chat soon and Hail Hydra

Anxiety

I found this article on a friends page on Facebook. It's only until recently I was aware of the condition. I have someone very close to me to who suffers from it and I think is just something that everybody should be aware of. I believe we all know someone who suffers from it. We can't make the problem go away but we can help a little and help someone with the pressure that they feel they are under.

Nobody can do everything but, Everybody can do something.

Anxiety is a mental illness that many can overcome with a help.
Please raise awareness and understanding.

Hello March

Hello March,

So few things I've been enjoying this last week or so, and few things to look forward to this month.
DC Comics 2014 Calender

Thor: The Dark World
So this completed the best movies I saw in 2013. Thor: The Dark World was an extremely satisfying follow up to the original Thor movie and the Avengers.Thor returns back to Asgard after the events of the alien invasion of New York with the Avengers against Loki. Thor is later reacquainted with the woman he loves, Jane Foster after she is infected with a power source that Malekith, leader of the Dark Elves wants possession of. Malekith has reawoken from his slumber in accordance with the time period that he can unleash the power source in order to turn the universe back to it's original state of eternal darkness. In a attempt to defeat Malekith and the Dark Elves Thor has to trust and form an allegiance with his untrustworthy adoptive brother Loki. I loved the first Thor film, the escapism into a beautiful captivating new world of Asgard, which in a new turn most of the story takes place in. It was a great film full of great action and emotional moments. The first movie of four years that my girlfriend burst into tears at. I loved it and is one of my favorite movies.

V for Vendetta
A powerful story about loss of freedom and individuality, V FOR VENDETTA takes place in a totalitarian England following a devastating war that changed the face of the planet. In a world without political freedom, personal freedom and precious little faith in anything comes a mysterious man in a white porcelain mask who fights political oppressors through terrorism and seemingly absurd acts. It's a gripping tale of the blurred lines between ideological good and evil.

I watched the V for Vendetta 2006 movie a when it came out on DVD and I really enjoyed it, I thought it was one of those kind of films that everyone should see. It was only on the DVD special features that I discovered that it was based on a graphic novel. Which I spotted sometime after in comic book shop, the sales assistant proceeded to tell me that the creator's name Alan Moore appears nowhere in the movie and one difference in the beginning of the story. I was interested in this book that inspired the great film. I received the book and mask gift set as a Christmas gift from my girlfriend along with this painting she got me also.

This book is a product of the times it was written in, Britain of the 1980's was wracked by recession and with discontent against the Conservative government. Hanging over this was the ever-present Cold War mentality that paints a bleak future and loss of many freedoms. The story features many characters from different points view but the main character is the mysterious man know only as V. This is a dark story, and it is one for the most prolific comic stories ever written. Well worth checking out.

Fall Out Boy LIVE in Dublin
After the many great gifts my girlfriend had got me for Christmas, This is hopefully the best for her. This month is the month my girlfriend has been waiting for, as we are having two nights away together in Dublin to see one of her favorite bands. Fall Out Boy in the Olympia Theatre.
I'm not really much into this band but I love to see my girl full of happiness.

Superman Last Son
This is one of my favorite Superman stories, I bought this book along with a few others during the summer in the lead up to Man of Steel movie and re-read it again this week. This stand alone story was written by DC legend Geoff Johns and Superman The Movie Director, Richard Donner with and art by Adam Kubert.

When a meteor like object crash lands in the centre of Metropolis containing a young boy who Superman believes maybe from Kryptonian. He see's this an opportunity to be a father figure to the boy and finds himself in a similar situation that his own parents did many years ago. But unlike Kal's arrival this is public knowledge, thus gaining the attention of the Government, Lex Luthor and The Superman Revenge Squad. Though the first half is light hearted the later presents the return of General Zod in a way that movie fans would appreciate. Last Son is a sobering portrayal of Superman’s eternal struggle to fit in as a human being despite knowing it will never be possible. One of my favorite Superman stories.

Captain America The Winter Solider

So looking this movie that's setting up to be 70's style paranoia thriller.

Thor The Dark World DVD special features contains an excellent first look at the movie which is epic. I've read all about it in Empire Magazine's February issue in which they explain how it as how "Marvels latest action spectacular may just be their deepest most complex and grown up movie yet"

Released on March 28th 2014

Happy Sunday
